The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones - Volume 1 This highly acclaimed and immensely popular series (originally known as The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles) seems to be aimed at younger viewers but I suspect those who grew up with the show will wax nostalgic and find a lot of joy in rediscovering a TV classic. From the product description: The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles was based on the Indiana Jones series of films. The series follows the Indiana Jones character (as a young boy and as a young man) as he was growing up and experiencing his early adventures, where he gets into trouble, learns life lessons and encounters various historical figures along the way. The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles was filmed on location all over the world ~ including England, Russia, Spain, Czechoslovakia, Kenya, France, India, China, Austria, Egypt, the United States, Morocco, Ireland, Italy, Africa, Turkey, Greece and Thailand. This 1992 series begins with a very young Indiana played by Corey Carrier who, after a few episodes, grows to teen Indiana portrayed by Sean Patrick Flanery. The premise is a bit contrived - somehow by chance, Indie just happens to run into all kinds of famous people from the era. Abandoned by the pyramids who should show up out of the blue but Laurence of Arabia. In another episode, Indy falls for the daughter of the writer of the Tom Swift novels and calls on Thomas Edison when he needs to fix a battery. You get the idea. The locales are exotic, from lush and lovely to harsh. The mysteries intriguing. For 8 - 14 year olds, Young Indiana Jones is perfect. It's like live action Scooby Doo for older kids. Rather than your typical hour-long drama, these shows are actually 7 full length movies - or more like 2 hour-long episodes combined since each takes place in two different locales. What fans of the show are sure to love are the immense amount of extras and bonus features found in this remarkable collection, including a whopping 38 companion documentaries on the famous historical characters seen in the shows. There's a lot of excitement surrounding this release. One Amazon reviewer called Young Indiana Jones, "my favorite show when it originally aired, and I've retained very fond memories of it ever since. It's nice to see that, though the amount of documentaries included here borders on the absurd, it is getting a full treatment and is not just some rush-job release-it-and-forget-it package that often happens with long-discontinued series." Another quips, "The entire Young Indiana Jones series was well-scripted and the rotating cast was top shelf. Where else can you see Catherine Zeta Jones in one of her first mainstream acting gigs?" It's wholesome, family entertainment, great for viewing with the kids. The best news - you can save almost 50% by ordering online now! TV on DVD Reviews: |
