The Wire - The Complete Fourth Season I literally got chills up my spine when I held this DVD set in my hands, The Wire is absolutely my favorite TV drama of all time, I just finished watching all 3 seasons for a second time this fall and I've been greatly anticipating season 4. Though there are major plot treads that interweave and evolve through the years, each season of The Wire focuses in on a different segment of Baltimore's appalling underbelly. This year they zoom in on an inner city middle school to focus on the kids that get lured into gangs and the drug trade. This is no cheap plot device, show co-creator and writer Ed Burns started out as a public school teacher in Baltimore. No wonder Entertainment Weekly called this season, "dazzling... a staggering achievement." This devastating spectacle never fails to send my blood pressure soaring; there are so many moments when you cann't believe what you've seen or heard because it feels so real. Wonder if you'll like The Wire? Just watch the first scene of the first episode of season 4 and you'll be along for the ride - but I suggest you start with season 1. The Wire is the best written, best acted program of all time as far as I'm concerned and I'm certainly not alone in that assessment, GQ called The Wire, "The best show on TV." The brilliant 4th season proves that The Wire is getting better with age. Bonus features include an hour-long documentary on the making of season 4 and 6 episode commentaries by David Simon and the cast & crew. Season 4 Product Description: With the fall of Barksdale and the ascent of young Marlo Stanfield as West Baltimore's drug king, the detail continues to "follow the money" up the political ladder in the midst of a mayoral election that pits the black incumbent, Clarence Royce, against an ambitious white councilman, Tommy Carcetti. The theme of urban education is explored through four new characters ? Michael Lee, Namond Brice, Randy Wagstaff and "Dukie" Weems as they traverse adolescence in the stunted, drug-saturated streets of West Baltimore. The world that awaits these boys and the American commitment to equal opportunity are depicted brilliantly in the edgy, all too realistic Season 4 of The Wire. Number of discs: 4 TV on DVD Reviews:

FEATURES YOU MIGHT ENJOY: Plot Outline: Baltimore drug scene,
seen through the eyes of drug dealers, and law enforcement. Plot Synopsis: Set in Baltimore,
this show centers around the city's inner-city drug scene. It starts
as mid-level drug dealer, D'Angelo Barksdale beats a murder rap. After
a conversation with a judge, Det. James McNulty has been assigned
to lead a joint homicide and narcotics team, in order to bring down
drug kingpin Avon Barksdale. Avon Barksdale, accompanied by his right-hand
man Stringer Bell, enforcer Wee-Bey and many lieutenants (including
his own nephew, D'Angelo Barksdale), has to deal with law enforcement,
informants in his own camp, and competition with a local rival, Omar,
who's been robbing Barksdale's dealers and reselling the drugs. The supervisor of the investigation, Lt. Cedric Daniels,
has to deal with his own problems, such as a corrupt bureaucracy,
some of his detectives beating suspects, hard-headed but determined
Det. McNulty, and a blackmailing deputy. The show depicts the lives
of every part of the drug "food chain", from junkies to
dealers, and from cops to politicians.
