Justice League - The New Frontier (Two-Disc Special Edition) Justice League: The New Frontier is unquestionably one of the most exciting animated superhero films of all time, ranking with The Incredibles for far out fun. Produced by Bruce Timm and based on Darwyn Cooke's remarkable graphic novel (The New Frontier) this high flying film stays true to its retro roots. It's basically the telling of the origin of the Justice League of America (created in 1960) set in the 1950s and illustrated in a pleasing, stylistic manner. New Frontier is not just a re-envisioning of iconic, well established characters it's a giant leap forward for non-theatrical, animated adventure stories. Major players include such second tier heroes like Adam Strange, Blackhawks, Challengers of the Unknown, and Martian Manhunter fighting alongside The Flash, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Batman and, of course, Superman. An all-star cast provides the voices and every one is dead on - David ('Angel') Boreanaz as Hal Jordan, Lucy ('Xena') Lawless, as Wonder Woman, Miguel Ferrer ('Bionic Woman') as the Martian Manhunter, Jeremy Sisto ('Law & Order') as Batman, Neil Patrick Harris ('Doogie Howser') as Barry Allen, Kyle ('Twin Peaks') MacLachlan as Superman, Kyra ('The Closer') Sedgwick as Lois, Brooke Shields as Carol Ferris, and Vicki Lewis as Iris West. Besides these guys, there are cameos from just about every DC character from the last 50 years. Justice League: The New Frontier is an awe-inspriring, kinetic ride with wide appeal although it's geared for adults; spine tingling excitement, especially for those of us who grew up with the Silver Age DC comics. There is some minor coarse language and a lot more violence than you'd find in your typical TV superhero cartoon. For an old comic book geek this was a particular joy, a lushly designed tale of courage reflecting that adventuresome, can do, American spirit of the era. There are bonus features as well - a history of the Justice League, a sneak peek at another new animated Batman series and two audio commentaries, one by Darwin Cooke. That's just on disc 1, disc 2 offers three bonus Justice League Unlimited episodes (The Dark Heart, Task Force X & To Another Shore) and loads of other features. It may be overkill but fans will relish this first class treatment. Let's have lots more of this! Official site: warnervideo.com/jlnewfrontier/ TV on DVD Reviews: |
