THIS 'N' THAT
You may not have noticed, but it was difficult to find the Peanuts specials (including A Charlie Brown Christmas) because they were out of print. There's a new 3 special edition coming for 2008 that includes the Xmas special, Great Pumpkin, and A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. There are some bonus features and each can be purchased separately beginning next month.

Who wouldn't want to win a trip to LA and a walk on role in Mad Men, TV's most acclaimed drama? AMCtv.com invites Mad Men fans to audition for a walk-on role in Season 3. You don't need to be a professional actor to audition and you can do this with a simple digital camera. You can enter now until August 25.

Just perform pre-selected lines for Don Draper, Pete Campbell, Roger Sterling, Betty Draper, Peggy Olson or Joan Holloway and send us your video. Complete contest guidelines are attached.

Starting July 7, you will be able to view, comment, and vote for entries on the official "You Could Be on Mad Men Contest" micro-site.

Entries for Mad Men Contest can be submitted here.

Speaking of AMC, that cable net and ITV will be mounting a six-hour miniseries remake of The Prisoner for next year. It sounds good so far - Sir Ian McKellen and Jim Caviezel are cast as Number Two and Number Six. Will Patrick McGoohan turn up? He just celebrated his 80th birthday.

SUNDAY FUNNIES
I just loved the Little Rascals / Our Gang shorts that typically ran early on Sunday mornings when I was growing up. This is one of the Gang's funniest romps, The Kid From Borneo. "Yum Yum eat 'em up!"

When VH1 (I think it was) did their rundown of the 100 Greatest Child Stars I was offended that Spanky wasn't on the list - or Farina, Stymie, or any other Little Rascal stars. Heck, Spanky deservs an Oscar for his role in this short alone! The fellow playing the wild man (Uncle George) is renowned prize fighter Lester Johnson.

Here's part two:

A 1954 reunion of the early Little Rascals stars from the TV show You Asked For It.

GANJA QUEEN
HBO's Ganja Queen debuts on Monday, it's the latest in their summer Documentary series and this one, like the earlier entries, will knock your socks off.

By the title I expected the story of a notorious drug smuggler but what we get instead is a naive young Australian tourist traveling in Bali who ends up in facing the death sentence for smuggling marijuana into their country. A country, after watching this, I will never visit!

Think Midnight Express except that it's happening right now - come to think of it, Midnight Express had a happy ending...

Ganja Queen is a horrifying journey into a nightmare scenario. Whether the young lady did it or not (and who can say for sure?) one thing is for certain - the filmmakers bring this desperate tale to full flower and its potency can't be denied. The ending will leave you reeling as an alternate but all too believable theory into how the pot got where it did is tossed out almost as an afterthought. This is a messy story of intrigue and needless suffering that, for better or worse, sticks with you after the film is over.

Watch Ganja Queen beginning Monday, June 30th at 9:00pm only on HBO.

THURSDAY FUNNY STUFF
First up, Jack Benny on the Dean Martin Roast - the roastee is Governor Ronald Reagan. The former President died in June of 2004.

When it comes to insults you have to think of Don Rickles, here the Merchant of Venom skewers Frank Sinatra and just about every other star on the dais.

Rickles, Sinatra join Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show in 1976.

George Carlin / TV BlogDISCOVERED GEORGE CARLIN ROUTINE
Back in 1975, the Smothers Brothers hosted The Tonight Show for one evening. This was right after the cancellation of their (mostly) wonderful, short-lived NBC variety show. Their guests that night were Hoyt Axton, Minnie Ripperton, Pat Paulsen, Don Novello, and George Carlin. I taped most of the 90-minute show on a cassette recorder; here's a bit of George Carlin's routine, unfortunately the tape ran out before he did - but in it he talks about death.

ON THE TV
Don't miss tonight's episode of a series on the Sundance Channel that I'm liking quite a bit - Big Ideas For A Small Planet. Past shows have taken us behind the scenes at Google and Lexus, showing how their green technology saves natural resources, and highlighted gadgets that Joe Public can use to cut energy consumption. There were some surprising revelations for me, ways to save big bucks on the electric and water bill. Tonight the focus is on animals - endangered species, local animal shelters, pet food, and their impact on our interconnected lives.

Animal lovers will especially enjoy tonight's half-hour - wait until you see the difference between a new, modern animal shelter facility and the kind we've been used to. People who look after unwanted animals are a special breed and this episode highlights the many challenges they face. And this show may make you think twice about the food you feed your pet.

Big Ideas For A Small Planet airs Tuesday nights on The Sundance Channel at 9:00pm EST.

Sundance Channel also has a Big Ideas contest going on here.

The winner will be awarded a cash prize of $10,000 to help make their “Big Idea” a reality as well as a private green audit by “Big Ideas for a Small Planet” subject Current Energy. Four runners up will receive a Sundance Channel Green VIP Bag.
