QUOTES
"If we showed people the full extent of what we see every day in
Iraq, we would either have no one watching us because they couldn’t
stand to see the pictures, or we would get so many letters of complaint
that some organization would come down on us to stop." "During last night's Democratic debate,
all of the candidates said that if they were elected they would get rid
of the military's 'Don't Ask Don't Tell' policy for gay soldiers. 'Don't
Ask Don't Tell' will be replaced by the new policy: 'Don't Tell Me You're
Wearing Those Boots With That Gun!'" Monday,

Wonderama was a popular local NYC show that eventually was syndicated to a handful of stations around the USA. Here's a bit from Wonderama's early days when Sonny Fox was the host. Sonny discusses animation with artist Lou Gifford.
Here's a segment from Bob McAllister's Wonderama in the 1970s. Wonderama episodes are very rare so don't write in requesting the show your were on. No one thought to save that stuff. A popular feature was Snake Cans, Bob could really get his young audience worked up - he had to, the show ran for four hours (down from 6 originally) on Sunday mornings.

PROGRAM
NOTES Here's the trailer for the excellent new FOX show I told you about earlier, K-Ville. Isaiah Washington, Dr. Preston Burke on Grey’s Anatomy, will not be returning next season; the actor’s option was not picked up The third-season premiere of Bravo's My Life on the D-List hit a record ratings peak on Tuesday, up 53 percent from the season two season premiere. Ratings are falling across the board for syndicated shows, you can read the story here. Tyler Perry's House of Payne debuted on TBS Wednesday and attracted the biggest sitcom audience in the history of ad-supported cable networks. Friday,

CNR We began this myspace page last year as a way to connect CNR with the cyberworld -- especially his younger fans, who he really got a kick out of hearing from. At first, we would go to his house and read the posts and messages to him. He really enjoyed the communications about his theater career, and was very proud when he heard from former students or people whom he inspired over the years. And he received a lot of these. He would dictate his response to us from his bed and we would dutifully post his replies on Myspace. As
he got more ill he became unable (and sometimes just too tired) to answer
the posts and messages. We apologize to the many many fans who have asked
CNR questions or requested autographs and the like. Trust that the love,
respect and admiration was felt by Charles, even if he was unable to respond
to all the inquiries. The last time I saw Charles we just sat in his bedroom and watched some TV (someone had sent him a DVD compilation of him and Marty Feldman doing skits on the Dean Martin Golddigger show... fucking hilarious!!!) and talked about the movie... he had all kinds of ideas on how we should get the film out there. I read him some reviews of the film (he always loved that) and left. I am going to miss him. All of us who worked on "The Life of Reilly" had a special experience, as did everyone who came across Charles in life. He was brilliant, he was inspirational, he was funny as hell. If I have ever met a genius, it was Charles Nelson Reilly. We give our deepest condolensces to Patrick. (who, by the way, is a Saint). For
those of you who want to pay your last respects, I suggest renting a copy
of the "Jose Chung's Doomsday Defense" episode of the X-Files
spinoff show, Millenium and fixing yourself a Manhattan (Charles
preferred Jim Beam, with no cherry). You won't regret it. -bap What a great talent, so sad he won't get to know the reaction to his last work. As for me, I can't wait to see Life of Reilly this fall and I'm netflixing that episode of Millenium. (Ooops - no Millenium on DVD?) Meanwhile, here once again is the trailer for the film from You Tube:
And CNR with Lucy from 1970's Here's Lucy.
Remember Charles from The Ghost & Mrs. Muir? When will we see this great series on DVD? Thursday,

THIS
'N' THAT Another reason I love Netflix - if a DVD is being released on June 5th (as with Rescue Me Season 3) and it's at the top of my queue, they don't mail it out on June 5th, you get it on that date. In case you don't know, Rescue Me is one of the most amazing, explosive, kick-ass, blow you away television dramas of all - and one of the funniest shows around to boot. Denis Leary not only stars, he co-produces and co-writes the show as well. Pure genius. Just watched the first 2 episodes of Li'l Bush which debuts June 13th on Comedy Central and it's pretty funny - an animated satire on, obviously, the White House gang done in the style of those old Saturday morning shows that made juveniles out of adult characters. All of the Washington power players are represented as elementary school kids (hell, they act that way anyhow) and some of the parodies (like Bill & Hillary and Li'l Condi's schoolyard crush on Li'l Bush) are pretty darn clever. It manages to be both cute and clever but definitely vulgar and extremely distasteful (isn't everything today?). Overall, Li'l Bush is a winner, I got lots of laughs from this one. Li'l Bush has a way to go before it's as good as South Park but then it took South Park a while to get up to speed. Several years in fact! You should check Li'l Bush out - Wednesday, June 13th at 10:30pm on Comedy Central. From TV Guide: "TVGuide.com’s Michael Ausiello reports exclusively that, CBS is on the verge of resurrecting recently canceled Jericho for at least eight episodes, possibly at mid-season. According to one insider, it’s now just a matter of signing the actors to new deals and finding a new soundstage to house the show’s sets." TOP

K-Ville K-Ville is a breathless, wild ride that takes place in flood ravaged New Orleans which makes for an unsettling locale for a cop show to be sure. The show stars Anthony Anderson (Antwon Mitchell from The Shield) as Marlin Boulet, a troubled member of NOPD's Felony Action Squad. His partner, played by Cole Hauser (ER), is Afghan war veteran Trevor Cobb. Of course, these cops are of the break-the-rules school (otherwise it wouldn't be interesting right?) in much the same manner of The Shield So was the first episode of K-Ville as good as the first episode of The Shield? I think so; keep in mind that show got better as the season went along. What that means for the future remains to be seen but this FOX fall entry has plenty of potential, offering an extraordinary opportunity to explore the underlying tensions that exist in the aftermath of the levee failures. As is the style of the day, K-Ville is shot cinema verite with lots of wobbly, hand-held action. The stark, desaturated cinematography is appropriately unsettling, capturing the uneasy flavor of the Big Easy to a T. If you're prone to epileptic seizures I suggest you skip this one. Seriously, some of the chase sequences are pretty intense. Both heart-wrenching and action packed, K-Ville delivers loads of suspense with twists and turns that will leave you aghast. The quiet moments are well-written and handled, in fact, the entire cast is top of the line. Even the music drops are welcome and not overblown. Dare I allow myself to get excited about this one? K-Ville airs after Prison Break - Monday nights on Fox starting this fall.Next I'll feature the new sci-fi show New Amsterdam and a Farrely Brothers sitcom, The Rules For Starting Over. Tuesday,

NOTES Battlestar Galactica will end following the fourth-season on the Sci Fi Channel when producers will wrap-up the show's storyline with 22 new episodes. Why don't they revive The Gong Show? With the popularity of American Idol and America's Got Talent it seems like a natural. Here's an interesting article about the inequities of the legal system in dealing with marijuana. Did you know more people died last year eating spinach than smoking pot? Or that 40.1 percent of all Americans 12 years or older admitted trying marijuana at least once? Monday,

SUNDAY
YOU TUBING One of the regular features on the Bullwinkle show was Dudley Do-Right. This is a wonderful Dudley adventure, featuring the brilliant Hans Conried as Snidely Whiplash. The Jay Ward studio famously spent most of the money on scripts and superior voice talent, limiting the resources for animation. Although as you can see, the features was beautifully designed.
Another popular Sunday morning show on ABC was Make A Wish starring Tom Chapin. This fondly remembered broadcast produced by ABC News ran for five years (1971-1975) at 11:30am.

GREAT SUMMERTIME DVDs If you're lucky enough to take a vacation, these are my top 9 TV on DVD picks for this summer, a mix of new and old collections. All are excellent shows just made for leisurely viewing: SCI-FI: Dark Shadows - begin watching with these episodes. Battlestar Galactica 2.5 - intriguing adventure. DRAMAS: Gunsmoke - these are the best episodes, great extras. COMEDIES: Beverly Hillbillies - Season 1 & 2 are the funniest episodes. Dallas - I consider this a comedy and a damn good one, start with season 3. Match Game - cheesy '70's hilarity. Any of those collections will provide you with hours and hours of pleasure but reveling in them all may bring about an overdose of summer fun. Friday,
