“I
remember seeing the UK version of 'The Romper Room' in the 1960's
on Grampian TV. "I remember on Grampian TV, towards the end of the show, the presenter would hold an opaque hand-mirror to her face. There would be a whirling pattern on the screen and what I remember as harp music, and when it stopped the presenter could see through the mirror and would say ‘I can see … (the names of children who might be watching)’. For children like me, aged five in 1963, it seemed very exciting - how we used to listen out for our names!” Two more Grampian Romper Room presenters were Miss June (Imray) and Miss Daphne (Penny) d. 10/6/2003
Ron Geddes writes: I still visit your Romper Room pages on the TVparty website. I just happened to find more information (about the Anglia TV programme) if you feel like adding it to the 'Romper Room in the UK' page. It's at 78rpm.co.uk/anglia.htm#romp (My info about the Anglia programme is still OK I think.) Billy, there's another Anne Milne's home-town obituary. Miss
Helen (above) can be seen in this video. |
