Amazing Recording:
Frank Sinatra Live in Monte Carlo
by Billy Ingram
Here’s a great find - a recording of a Frank Sinatra performance from 1958 live at The Sporting Club located in the gambling capital of the world, Monte Carlo.
This is a great opportunity to experience what Sinatra’s live show sounded like in the late-1950s, tailored no doubt slightly for the international venue.
This was a benefit concert for The United Nations Refugee Fund held in Monte Carlo, hosted Princess Grace of Monaco.
With an introduction by Noel Coward, along with the superb orchestra conducted by Quincy Jones, June 14, 1958 proved to be a special night for the high rollers who arrived by yacht for dinner and a spectacular show.
When asked if she had a request, Princess Grace wanted to hear “You Make Me Feel So Young.” Sinatra sang it with verve.
It was Quincy’s work with Sinatra that propelled the bandleader and arranger to superstar status. This concert took place just months after Sinatra released one of his biggest hit singles, “Come Fly with Me.”
