Bones The first episode of the new season deals with a human skull that comes crashing through a stoner's windshield. Bummer, man. Turns out the skull was stripped of its flesh by another person. The munchies? No, it goes deeper than that - it's a serial killer, always a good hook for a season opener. It's clear there was a cast member who left last season, so a lot of the emphasis of this first new episode is on missing him and building suspense for the replacement. You will be very surprised who steps in. I won't give it away but it's a good thing producers have this character on hand, he's by far the most fascinating of the bunch. The only spark this hour has is when he is on screen. The constant personal asides back and forth while the investigations take place are tired and not terribly interesting, a cheat we've seen too many times by now. Bones tries so hard to be jokey and too loudly telegraphs the exposition and 'clever' euphemisms which makes me think the producers don't believe their viewers are very smart. Come to think of it, the barrage of commercials that come between acts do have a mind-numbing effect. Not having experienced Bones before maybe I'm at a loss, or perhaps the production is slipping. Whatever the reason, I found the first episode of the third season way too far-fetched, cartoonish, not very well-written and poorly acted to boot. Your experience may differ. Bones Season 3 premiere can be seen on Tuesday, September 25th at 8pm ET/PT. Here are some interviews with the stars:
